Visual perception of the outside is a comfort factor in good shading design. Perforated louvres work like net curtains that allow the occupier to see outside even when fully closed.
Perforated louvres are almost as effective as solid ones in controlling glare and solar gain but they should not be used if night time privacy is required or if VDU screens are to be located close to the windows.
