Roller Blind Fabric
Traditional fabric was linen and known as Scotch Holland. This was eventually replaced by less expensive cotton and latterly by man-made fibres. These are either made to look like traditional fabric or woven to a unique look. Fabrics can be have treatments applied to make them more solar reflective (SPC) they can also be flame-retardant. More fashionable now are mesh materials that are designed to allow outward vision .
Mesh material
Works best with high angle sun. Then because of the angle the fabric presents a solid face to the sun’s rays. As the angle lowers greater penetration occurs. This can be beneficial in winter to allow heat gains into the building but it can cause a glare problem. Generally east and west elevations need a more closed mesh than the South. There are different densities from 1-15% openness. The the most open that is best for vision will be poor for glare control and vice-versa, it is a matter of balance and prioritising needs. The range can be viewed at our fabric suppliers website http://www.mermet.co.uk/fabrics.htm
Solar Film
Suited to shop windows where UV reduction is needed to prevent fading whilst maintaining the view of the displays. Solar films consist of thin layers of polyester that are clear or dyed to a range of colours that give different degrees of darkness.
